Can an one recommend a car service or pre arranged cab from the airport in Rome. I wanted to use Romecab. But they told me they are booked up for the day I arrive. That is not until September. I guess they must be good to be so booked up.. But is there any other that anyone can refer me to?

Where do you want to go from the airport? If it is just into center Rome, then walk out the front of the terminal, find the taxi line, and take the next cab into Rome. It is fixed at 48E for up to 4 people and luggage. It is pretty simple.
My hotel is next to the Vatican
Rome in Limo is another service I hear good things about. Also check trip advisor for other such services.
I stay there too. The taxi will work out fine. Do not allow yourselves to be "hustled" by the people who will be at the airport exit. Go to the real taxi stand where they are licensed. Last time I got talked into one of the vans and at 20eu per person, ended up paying more, and had to sit in the van while it made stops for other passengers. My traveling companion thought she was saving $
Take regular cab.
TransfersRome.com. It may be a little more money to have a private driver rather than a taxi but it is well worth it. I will never forget arriving at FCO and having to stand in the heat of the taxi land for 15 minutes before we got in a taxi. After an overnight flight we vowed to always have a driver waiting for us!
We were in Rome a couple of months ago and got a cab right away when exiting FCO! Even got a description of what we were passing by the driver as well as being able to enjoy some nice music.
Michelle, I can't remember if you are on a strict budget or not, but if not, we really enjoyed the RomeCabs VIP service which included an hour's tour of Rome on the way to the hotel. In all, we were in the van (there were 5 of us) for about 1.5 hours, so the tour part did not include the drive in from the airport. It was slightly hair-raising as driving the streets of Rome is pretty different from say,the streets of Valrico FL or Troy ID, lol. It looks like it is 100Euro for 2 of you for that kind of transfer vs the 48E for a regular taxi (assuming that would be the fare to your Vatican area hotel, but am not the expert on that!).
