Advance purchase of train tickets

We will be in Italy in mid to late July. We will be taking a train from Venice to Verona (on a Sunday for the opera) and from Verona to Florence (on Monday afternoon after cooking school). Do we need to purchase the train tickets in advance? I would like the flexibility to go when we want, but don't want to be shut out or spend more than I should.

Venice-Verona: There is frequent regional train service. The fare is €7.50 and there is no discount for advance booking. Open seating with no reservations possible. If you take a high-speed train and don't book in advance, the standard fare is €23.00. Verona-Florence: You will need to change trains. Depending upon what types of trains you take, if you don't book in advance, you will pay from €38.50 to €57.00.

I have never purchased train tickets in advance and have never had any problems being able to get to where we wanted to go. Italian trains are inexpensive and there are many going and coming from the cities you have mentioned. What I like to do is, when I arrive in a city on a train, I go to the ticket counter and buy a ticket for the day I am leaving that city. That way, the day of my departure, I don't have to stand in the ticket lines and I can go right to the right track. Enjoy Verona and the opera. It is a magical city and the opera in the ampitheatre is wonderful. The last time I was there a rock band from the states was performed in the theatre one night.

Thank you for your feedback. I won't worry about buying advance tickets
