if i carry my passport do i still need to carry my drivers license. also for id in airport tsa or customs

If you need to drive a rental car overseas, yes, you need your American drivers lic along with the International Dricers Permit. Otherwise your passport will suffice.

A drivers license is very handy for things like audio guides and such rentals. You are typically required to leave an ID as collateral and the DL is better than leaving your passport.
