Corsica

My daughter and I are meeting in Paris in July and have 4 or 5 days before we need to be in Rome. We were thinking of flying, or combination train and ferry to Corsica. We've heard the Porto Vecchio region in the south of Corsica is lovely - any advice about Corsica, or a different place to spend 4 beachy days ? We will be in cities on either side of this travel and want a few days to relax by the ocean, and not spend a lot of time in the car. Is there any easy part of Italy to get to on the ocean that won't be packed with our fellow tourists in mid July ?

Portovecchio is really nice, lots of restaurants and cafes. For nice beaches it is better to go in one of the many beaches located in the area. Their beaches are amazing. A car is therefore necessary. A visit to Bonifacio is a must also. July will be busy, no way to get around that in any coastal location in the Mediterranean "sea". Corsica is part of France and substantially more expensive than Italy. When I went a few years back I stayed part of my vacation in Santa Teresa area (Sardinia), then crossed by Ferry and stayed near Porto Vecchio. Corsica was at least 30%-40% more expensive than Sardinia. if you are looking for nice beaches, Sardinia and Corsica probably have the best in the Med.

I don't know about "packed with fellow tourists" but you might consider Sicily. EasyJet flies from Paris to Sicily - my daughter and I just spent a week in eastern Sicily then flew EJ from Catania to Paris for 3 days, which worked well except for a REALLY long line for bag drop. We stayed in Siracusa, about an hour's bus ride from the Catania airport, but there are probably other beachier spots that you might investigate, perhaps Taormina? Have a great trip!

" meeting in Paris in July " With this in mind, I suggest taking the high speed train to Nice & take the ferry. In mid July ( after the Tour de France crowd leaves by 1 July ) it will still be very crowded.
