Toll Charges

IN March 2007, we drove all around Italy for three weeks
paying lots of toll charges. On the last night as we
were closing in on the Rome Airport, we left a toll road
and the charge was EU 53 !!! We had not paid anywhere
near to that amount before...EU 5 to EU 18...i think was
the highest. This EU 53 just cannot be correct.

We are more than willing to pay the correct toll charge...
Now, we have the customary notice from emo.nivi.it......
which has shown us the new charge of: EU 92....!!

This is highway robbery...but I suspect there is nothing we can do about it.....

The website I am supposed to connect with to pay this fine
is just comments from travelers...

Help....what to do ?

Thanks,
Carolyn

The 92e fee is probably from parking or driving in restricted zones while driving through Italy.

Note to self: reason # 975 why one should use the great Italian train and bus system.

I had some difficulty getting through to the email
suggested on our 'violation' letter...but alas, I did discover that it was, indeed, a
violation for circulating on roads reserved fto
other vehicles....I found the street where the
photo was taken and it was close to our hotel.....
so be it....Is it safe to give one's credit card
number to this place...EMO...?
Does the bank transfer work better?\

..we used the trains in England and Scotland and
also in Denmark and Switzerland, twice. It works
well...as long as you adjust your schedule to
theirs...In Italy, we had our own itinerary that made a car the best choice and
once out of Rome, used the car..which we would
do again........I reserve hotels that offer parking...
free or otherwise, and we have no problems....

Thanks for all your input.......

Carolyn, do you have a credit card from Citibank or Bank of America? If so, both those companies let you generate credit card numbers online. The number is for your account, of course, but you can set a limit for how much can be charged and when it expires. A limit of 95E expiring in 2 mos would not leave you open to a lot of fraud :-) Other companies may have this too, but I know the ones I mentioned do.

So what happens if you just "don't pay it"?
