We arrive at Milan airport on July 22 and plan to go directly to Lake Como.
We wanted to rent a car and drive to Lake Como but are having a more than difficult time trying to do this. Does it make sense to rent a car and drive or should we take a train and how do we do this?

What town are you staying in? Lake Como or like Varenna / Bellagio. You can get to Lake Como and Varenna easily by train. Stations in each city. Bellagio you can either drive or take the train then ferry.

Tom, most of the posters have taken the train. Beautiful place, can't determine if Varenna or Murren, Switz., is my favorite place.....or Paris.....or Cinque Terre(Vernazza). Ha!Ha! Scroll up to top of this page, in upper right hand corner is search box, type in " transportation to Lake Como" and you'll see past responses from posters. Don't forget to consider a day in Milan. Good Luck! There have also been a number of postings regarding taking an auto into the area.
