10 year Anniversary March-April 19

My husband's dreams of Rome are coming true for our 10 year anniversary this March/April . I have been to Venice and Florence only many years ago. We have about 12-14 days, including travel, so I am narrowing down our itinerary. He is not into art but loves the old history part. I am thinking of skipping Florence because that is all I remember about it. Is that a grave mistake?
Initially considering Venice/3 days, Cinque Terre/2 days, (quick Pisa stop on the way to) Sorrento/2 days (maybe Pompei from here?) and end in Rome for 4-5 days (giving time for day trip out to Old Frascati) Completely open to suggestions though!
Any suggestions/tips for very tall travelers? He is 6'10" and I'm 6'. Trying to figure out how to pack light for him...just his shoes barely fit in a carry on!
Also since this is our first time, would you recommend using a site like Trip Masters to arrange the big stuff, or think it better to do on your own?

You need to narrow down how many nights you will have, not days. It does make a difference. 12-14 days is 10-12 nights. I don't think you will have time for Sorrento and Pompeii without feeling really rushed.

I agree that, with the number of days you have, adding a fourth overnight destination would make for a very busy itinerary. I suggest choosing either Cinque Terre or Sorrento. If you choose Cinque Terre and Pompeii is a must-see, it could be done as a day trip from Rome. Also don't forget to account for the long travel times between the destinations you mention, with some being about 6 hours.

One packing tip is to take only the pair of shoes you wear. A comfortable "stylish" pair of black or brown walking shoes covers you for both casual and dressier situations. Mephisto works well for me, but there are similar brands that other people mention favorably too.

With the help of a good guidebook, it's easy to plan visits to major sights on your own. If you want to visit the Vatican Museum when it's less busy, that's a situation where an early-entry tour would be worth considering.
