Venice on New Year's Day

We're going to be in Venice on New Year's Day, which is also a Sunday. What should we expect? Is everything going to be closed? Open? Any insights will be most appreciated!

It's Venice---that is what counts. Our experience on multiple trips is that the city does not shut down on holidays--- but maybe some of the museums do. As for Sunday, that was one of our favorite days, as we were wished " Buon domenica" (Good Sunday) by the man at the public swimming pool and various shopkeepers we visited on Sunday. The Rialto market was closed on Sundays so we had to make other plans for our cooked dinner in our apartment.

Restaurants should be open but I actually did not check.

It's a holiday period that attracts many tourists. Restaurants will be open but as so many people eat out, make a reservation a week or ten days in advance. Sights open or closed, I do not know. Pick something you want to see and check their website. Many times Monday closures trump (pun intended) all and Sundays the museums remain open.
