10 days in Venice, Florence, & Cinque Terre?

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy for this September and are in the process of figuring out our itinerary. We have 10 days (not including travel to/from Italy), and are thinking of doing the following: 4 days Venice 4 days Florence (with a potential day trip to Siena or Lucca) 2 days Cinque Terre
Fly out of Genoa All our travel will be by train. In the ten days we have, we want enough time in each place without feeling rushed. We're debating about whether to go to the Cinque Terre since it is somewhat out of the way and not as close to an airport, but we love hiking and think it would make a nice end to our trip. Would you make any changes or suggestions? Does this sound like a good plan?

Jamie, Your proposed Itinerary is nicely paced and sounds good. Given the fact you "love hiking", you might consider reducing one day in either Venice or Florence, and adding it to the Cinque Terre. You'll have LOTS of opportunities for hiking there! While the Cinque Terre is somewhat of a "rural" area, it's reasonably close to the airports in both Pisa and Genoa, so it would be a good location to end your trip. For travel this September, I would suggest getting rooms booked in the Cinque Terre SOON! Have you considered which of the five towns you prefer to stay in? Happy travels!

Thank you, Ken. We decided to visit the Cinque Terre and fly out of Genoa after finding some good flights. I'm not sure which town we will stay in yet, I'm interested in Monterosso and Vernazza but we are up for suggestions.

Looks perfect...we had 36 hrs our 1st time in Venice and upped it to 3 nights the next time (and 2 more nights for our return visit this year). Two days perfect in CT..we are also going to these places in Sept this year! We stayed in Corniglia in CT last time and are staying at the same place again...very happy with our stay and prices, but Corniglia is the smallest(and therefore, quietest/not very lively)..but amazing views, as long as you catch the shuttle bus up the hill to the town. We used Arbaspaa.com to book our stay in CT, but I know they are starting to show lots of N/A...so you prob want to book there soon...

After traveling to Italy 2 times last year, on a time budget, my recommendation would be: 3 days Venice, 4 days Florence, 3 days Cinque Terre. I stayed in Monterosso for 3 days last April, and am taking my family back this summer. I would not stay less than 3 if I had the option. That would be the PERFECT end to your vacation. Also I would not reduce Florence as you can easily do day trips in Tuscany, which I highly recommend also. I went on the perfect wine tour last April and it was the highlight of my trip besides visiting C.T. I wrote about it on my blog www.bellasabroad.wordpress.com
