10 days in Sorrento

We have rented a villa in Sorrento for 10 daays in October and are starting to plan our day trips. Have a car. Other than Hurculeneum, Capri, Ravello, and suggestions? Also considering taking ferry from Naples to Sorrento and renting there but don't want to miss the coastline between the two. Wha about driving farther inland or south or to the other coast? We have plenty of time. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have not been there but I have seen it on tv. In Caserta which is Northwest(??) of Naples there is a beautiful palace that is similar to Versailles and it also has beautiful gardens.
Also do not miss Paestum which has Greek temples which are in quite good shape. It is beyond Salerno.
The town of Amalfi has a Duomo and don't miss Positano also.

Hi Diana,
I am going to Sorrento in October so it is good to read you desired attractions. I haven't started planning that part of the trip yet, so thanks. 2 years ago , I did spend time on the other southern coast in Ostuni, just south of Bari and it was wonderful. Friendly, beautiful,non-touristy, safe and the people loved helping me with my Italian. It is very Greek-like with white washed walls, great restaurants and loads of olive trees.
Have fun.

Hi Diana, Devika and Jan - we'll be in Sorrento in Oct. as well but unfortunately, only for 2 and 1/2 days so i'm really interested in information. Plan to use one day in Pompeii but haven't settled on the second one yet - maybe a ferry to-and-from Positano? Will be watching this thread with interest!!!!

Diana, consider purchasing "Eyewitness TOP 10 Naples and Amalfi Coast". This is a small guide book packed with great info. We used it on our trip to the Amalfi coast in 2005. It has suggestions for day trips, the must see of the area, shops, markets, beaches and spas. Offers suggestions for drives and "unmissable" museums and galleries. If you just did one a day, you've have your entire 10 days filled!

There is a small fold out map of the region and even a small phrase book at the back. Wonderful pictures and easy to read descriptions fill out this book. I highly recommend!

Positano for sure and all along the Amalfi coast as you said. You could also go to Pompeii one day. I'm sure you'll be taking the boat to Capri and Ishca.

Add Paestum to your itinerary... You can try to combine it with other Amalfi Coast towns, but it's nice to take the coast road all the way down, visit the ruins, have a nice meal and then drive the inland highway home (it's much faster than the coast road).

Well...........you could drive over to the other coast. We just drove the freeways, Rome to Bari, and it only took us 4 1/2 hours. (We spent 8 days on the East coast: Puglia)The A16 and A14 are absolutely great freeways, and that route is beautiful. If you went to the East coast I would suggest that you go to Trani. It is a beautiful little port town of 55,000 that has some neat little restaurants clustered around the small bay. ( also a real neat B@B that only charges $50/ nite 1/2 block off the bay.) Molfetta and Giovanazza have some great little "Centro Storico's" (old towns) nestled around beautiful little ports. Too bad that you can't stick around on that side, 'cause there are some great restaurants for evening dinners.
