10 days in Rome and Naples

I'm planning ten days in Italy in mid-March, arriving in Rome on the evening of day 0, and tentatively flying out of Naples on day 11. (so, 10 full days on the ground)

I'm a slower traveler and getting a feel for a sense of place is an objective of all my travels. Wondering neighborhoods and nursing a drink on a terrace are as valuable as museums and palaces, and I never stress about seeing or doing EVERYTHING.

My current plan/idea is to have 5 days in Rome and 4.5 days (after transit, train, hotel...) in Naples, to include a day in Pompai and maybe a day in Capri or Sorrento.

Does that seem like a reasonable plan to split my time over the 10 days?

I think that's reasonable. There are also other splits I'd consider reasonable. I like to spend a lot of time walking through neighborhoods with interesting architecture, and I enjoy art museums a lot. I don't devote as much energy to ancient sites as the typical tourist. Earlier this year I spent 31 days in Italy--20 days in Rome, 7 days in Naples and 4 days in Salerno. I felt I did a better (though definitely still incomplete) job of covering Rome than of covering Naples in the time I had allotted. I used parts of two Naples days to go to Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Hotels are usually considerably cheaper in Naples than in Rome, if that matters. Rome averages a degree or two warmer, I think, but by mid-March the odds are good that both cities will be pleasant.

Recently returned from a trip with 10 days in Rome and 8 days in Naples. Never tired of either place. I like to stay in more residential neighborhoods. In Rome I stayed in Testaccio and in Naples I stayed in Vomero. Also, I stayed in.apartments with gave even more insight into the feel of the neighborhoods.

Sorrento & Capri might have some closures in March, don't know for sure. Fewer ferries.

Thanks all. I'll stick with the plan.

And Tim, thanks for the heads up—I hadn't thought to check. There are ferries, but it's probably a lighter schedule than summer.
