10 days in Italy- Rome ~ Milan

My husband and I are taking our first Europe trip to Italy mid May for 10 days. We are flying in to Rome and out of Milan. Our plan is to spend 2 days in Rome, 3 in Tuscany and 3 in Chiquetere, then out of Milan. We are open to suggestions.

Rome - early morning tours. What is a must see/do.

Tuscany - whats a must? Food class? Wine?

We want to do the toursty stuff but also are looking for unique Italian experiences.
Thanks

How many NIGHTS do you actually have in Italy ?

2 days in Rome requires 3 nights and that is woefully short/ bare minimum

Cinque Terre will be jam packed and will require lodging booked ASAP- 3 days is probably too long

Tucany is very large and most hilltowns require a car

Start here and narrow down what you want to see

, then out of Milan

You are planning to spend the night before your flight in Milan, aren't you?

That means 4 locations spread over '10 days'.

We are open to suggestions

More time or one less destination

5 Roma
5 Milano
Based upon my experiences of 6 & 6.
Slow down. Enjoy life.
Italia will still be for your subsequent visits.

You are probably too late for many May reservations. May is high season. Welcome to the zoo.
Alternative itinerary would be:
Bologna 5 (we have been to Bologna 2x5 and are returning for 5 in November).
Milano 5

hey hey tami.twyman
like many first time travelers trying to see too much in little time. it is jubilee 2025 with italy expecting over 30 million people, especially in rome. crowds everywhere like a can of sardines, shoulder to shoulder bumping, restaurants and attractions booked for months. what does 2days in rome mean, 1 night and 2 days?
check-in hotels 2-4pm and check out 10-11am. you are traveling during highe season, hope you have hotels booked, supply and demand, expensive rooms. after rome many will train travel to bigger cities which will be more crowds. like Dave says relax, slow down, enjoy.
where in tuscany? it’s a big area and some places need a car which call for an IDP for rentals (aaa.com/IDP).
cars can be a PITA, finding parking outside of center, ZTL zones (no cars allowed) paying to park and tolls, gas prices
cinque terre (spelling) will be crowded with cruise ships docked for day, how many who knows? If 3 or 4 couple be 15,000 to 20,000 wanting to do want you hope to do, trains so packed, waiting at stations to get on with pushy/grumpy people. many not wanting to miss ship departing.
many areas all over italy have vineyards for wine tastings, food tours, less crowded places, cooking classes, wine & painting classes, small wine tours
lucca
near Pisa, wineries, walkable center within walls, villas, Pinocchio’s home nearby with garzoni gardens/butterfly house, pistoia, promenade walk with shops restaurants in viareggio, train ride from lucca
verona with many attraction, small towns around to visit on the train, farmers markets, shops, restaurants
lake garda
gorgeous lake and coastal views, ferry rides, many small viilages, vineyards & wine tasting. we stayed in bardolino for their annual September/October wine festival. was fabulous. close to milan
milan
some people love it some don’t, high fashion shows, lots of history, shops/restaurants, home to rice patties/risotta, attractions, activities, give it a chance make your own decision
give yourself time for destinations, less is more, time to travel between cities, time to check in and out of hotels, getting around, eating, do you have tickets to main places you hope/want to see, what we like or bests may not be what you want to see. do more research and come back to ask more questions
