10 days in Italy, need help with Itinerary

Hi All My husband works for an Italian company and needs to be 1 hour north of Venice for a couple of nights. My first and only trip to Italy was in May 2011 - met him in Venice for 2 nights, spent 2 nights in Sienna and drove through some of the smaller towns and then 3 nights in Florence - it was a fabulous trip. He is going back to his offices in early April and I again will meet him, this time for 10 nights. I know I want to do Rome this trip and thinking of adding the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Capri areas. It will be the 3rd week of April - what will the weather be like? Any suggestions for an itinerary? If I fly into Rome, I will just have my husband take the train from Venice and meet me in Rome this time. Your help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Your instinct is right: fly into Rome and have your husband take the train to meet you. Since you will most likely arrive in mid-morning, he can head out super early from Venice or perhaps come into Rome the night before to meet you at Termini Station. Then head immediately to Naples on the fast train (you get a nap) and go on to Sorrento for 5 nights. I highly recommned Hotel Antica Mura in Sorrento. From there you can do the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii. Return to Rome for your last 5 nights. Get an apartment in Rome through VRBO.com and stay in the historic center for the best experience. Do you have Rick Steves' guidebook? Lots of essential info there about both locations, how to take the Circumvesuviana, etc.
