10 days in Italy

we are booked for Venice to Rome tour in Oct. Is it best to fly into Milan or direct to Venice? I'd like to arrive 2days ahead of the tour beginning to recover from jetlag. How do I get from Milan to Venice?

Why do you want to go to Milan instead of Venice to start? I would think directly to Venice would be easier unless you really want to see Milan before your tour. Trains in Italy are great. That's what I would do if I was flying into Milan. (Maybe it's a better deal on airfare?)

We did this same tour 2 years ago and we flew into Milan and then took the train to Monterosso for 2 days and then took the train to Venice to start the tour. We loved it, also you could go from Milan to Lake Como for 2-3 days then again take the train to Venice, The trains are nice and everything is usually direct connections so there is no hoping from one train to another. Go for it!

*(Your going to love the Rick Steves tour, Venice is magical, Florence is pure renaissance and Rome is majestic!) *

The reason to fly into Milan is that there are more non-stop flights from North America than there are (if currently any) to Venice. We flew into Milan and spent two nights on Lake Como before joining the tour. You could pick other places like Verona as well. Take a train from Milan or wherever to Venezia Santa Lucia - simple and easy.

Wow thank you all for these great responses. So Quick! I’m very excited for our trip and you all have given me confidence that I can navigate Italy by train. We toured France on our own 10yrs ago using only the RS guildbook and it was fabulous. Now though at 66yrs I need the help of a small group tour guild for most of the trip. Because the direct flight I am looking at is into Milan I’m thinking of staying there at least the first night before going on to Venice. I will research the train schedules for times and stations.
This forum is wonderful. Thanks Folks 😽
