"Carol retired" you possibly could answer this question.
I have printed out the CartaFreccia form to submit. In reading all the replies to your initial thread, I went on line to see what
the train fare for 2 people would be in October of this year.
We will not be travelling until May next year and of course the fees are not posted probably until late December or early January.
We will travel from Rome Termini to Bologna, from there by train to Venice and then Venice to Torino.
I would be interested with the Carta what the actual savings would be.
I did check Italotreno as well and fares are almost the same even though I did click on "Senior".
Anyone else out there that can answer my question would be appreciated as well.

To test this I'd just price out a ticket at the full fare and then with the Cartafreccia. You may need to choose a date more than a week in the future to see a difference in fare; I didn't get any discount with the Cartafreccia on the regionale tickets I bought in Italy recently, but I was buying them only one or two days ahead of time.

Enter a day of travel right before December 11, the Cartafreccia fares - when still available - will be displayed together with the other discounted fares (Economy, SuperEconomy etc.) and the walk-up fare (called Base).

You can't pay more than Base, but sometimes you can pay less than the the Cartafreccia in Business class.
As an example, if you took the direct Venice-Turin Trenitalia train running on December 8, you'd pay in Standard class:

BASE 72,00€

ECONOMY 53,90€

SUPER ECONOMY 39,90€

SENIOR (Cartafreccia) 36,00€

But in Business class the prices for the same train are:

BASE 98,00€

ECONOMY 69,90 €

SUPER ECONOMY 44,90€

SENIOR 49,00€ CartaFreccia

PROMO SUPER AUTUNNO FRECCE 38,90€ CartaFreccia

Schedules and prices between December 11, 2022 and June 12, 2023 will be uploaded before December 11, not in January.

If you are travelling close to May 1, you'd better get Cartafreccia Senior tickets asap on some trains.

I didn't get any discount with the Cartafreccia on the regionale tickets I bought in Italy recently, but I was buying them only one or two days ahead of time

You didn't get any discount because there are no discounted fares Available on subsidized local trains, aka the Regionale; only on high speed and long distance trains. You might even say there are ONLY discounted tickets on Regionale trains since no passenger, despite his age, pays the real price.

Thanks, Dario. I wondered about that. The fares were so low that I had no complaints about what I was paying.

I have the card and booking 2 to 4 weeks in advance, I found that there was no savings &/or the option was sold out. The one possible advantage is in the benefits if you cancel or want to change a booking. The cheapest fare doesn’t let you do either.

Thanks babyboomer, that is the answer I was looking for. Carol retired eluded to this as well. I am sure of the times of travel so will opt to just book. We are not going until next May so when new times are posted I will apply and hopefully get good savings.
