1 week in Rome in August: best neighborhood?

We're an older-middle-age couple with a 9 year old daughter. First time in Rome, August 2019, for one week. We plan to Air BnB. In what neighborhood should we stay? We want to be near a subway station. We love antiquities, museums, cafes and restaurants, and food markets, and are relatively adventurous, but don't speak Italian. Thank you!

Neighborhoods near the Pantheon.
Whatever the neighborhood, make sure it your lodging is air-conditioned for August in Rome.
And don't worry about not speaking Italian, this is not Paris, the tourist service works will accommodate you linguistically.

In Rome ,not being near a subway station is not a problem. We have never used it in Rome whereas do in most cities. Walk, take a bus or a taxi.

Buses are more useful than the Metro. As Kent suggests, near the Pantheon is convenient, or Piazza Navona, and I like Prati, the neighborhood near the Vatican very much. From Prati, the Metro can be a help.

Thank you all. On transportation: is there a 1-week pass that we can use on all buses and the subway? Does Uber work well in Rome?

Regarding local transportation, on this site look at the link for Roma Tourist Ticket. Options for 24, 48, 72 hours or 7 days.

Only Uber Black in Rome, but the taxis are dependable. Pick one up at a taxi stand as they do not stop when flagged. Or have your hotel or restaurant call one for you.

For three people, taxis are quite a good deal. They generally cost less than 12 euros to get from one point to another in the historical center.

The historical center of Rome is relatively compact (2.5 miles east-west and 1.5 miles north-south). The epicenter of the historic center is the Piazza Navona/Pantheon area. Find a place reasonably near there.

Plan your daily itineraries to go in one direction, then take a taxi back when you're done.

Also, allow me to reinforce the comment that in August you HAVE to find a place with A/C. Make sure it's available to be run during the day.
