(1) purchase of Roma card, Firenze card (2) make reservations

We will arrive at Venice first (2 nights). Then we go to Florence (3 nights) and Rome (4 nights) . Can we purchase Roma card or Firenze card in Venice? I just don't want to get stuck for any reason, considering out limited time in each city and language barrier, if we wait till we are actually in those cities to purchase their cards. Also reading Rick's travel guid, he suggests making reservation for some museums/sights i.e. Vatican museum. How much in advance should I make those reservations? would there be enough time, if I wait till I (1) am in Italy or (2) am in those cities ? thank you all in advance for sharing with us your advice/knowledge/suggestions.

Are you sure you need/want these cards ? Will you have time to visit enough covered sights in each city to make the purchase worthwhile ? We bought Roma Card at a newsvendor in Termini; bought Florence Card at Pitti Palace (no line.) But we only bought them once, skipped the cards on later visits.

I thought about it. Since this is our first time there, we were thinking to opt for no hassle, easy breezy cards that will cut the time standing in lines and give us more time to cover sights. Another option is to reserve each sight individually which I thought of doing first. thanks for your comment : )

No, you can't buy the cards in other cities but they're available in multiple locations in their own cities.

The Vatican Museum is separate, not covered by the Roma Card. Those tickets are less limited and don't have to be booked terribly far ahead, but they still could sell out. For instance, you can still book today for most of the day tomorrow. Most other museums do restrict entry more, to preserve a less crowded experience. Book well ahead for the Galleria Borghese, and do it by phone if you intend to use a Roma Card.

The Firenze Card costs €85 per person to ensure that you don't have to make reservations.
