1 night in milan

In April 2015, planning a second trip to Italy. Will leave Boston on an evening flight and arrive in Milan next morning. Please recommend accommodation for 1 night as we will then take the train to Lake Como. Any advice welcome. Thanks

First, since it is now September 2014, I presume you meant April 2015. The Hotel Florida is about two blocks from the central train station in Milan so it is convenient. In September 2013 it was about 100 euro per night for a double and breakfast. Have a great trip.

Carolyn, I recommend that you just get right on the train to whatever town is your Lake Como destination, and stay there one night early. Here's why: if you arrive in Milan in the morning, you won't be able to check into a hotel until late afternoon anyway, so you will basically be walking around tired, jet-lagged and no place to rest. Leaves you only a few, uncomfortable hours to see anything in Milan. So you might as well spend that time on the train, to your real destination. My two cents.

That is not necessarily true. While it is possible that you cannot get a room till the PM, most of the time we are able to checkin into our hotel in the morning. It is just a question of how full the hotel the night before and if the room is available. However, Lake Como is close so you could easily move onto Como conveniently the same day.

How long is that train ride to Como? Our trip is also in April 2015. I'd much prefer to spend a couple of days touring there, then head back to Milan.

Thanks, I did mean April 2015. I thought about heading right to Lake Como so I will reconsider.

its about a 60 minute train trip to Varenna from Milan......don't know which town you are headed to, but its doable.
