1 night Hotel, 1/2 day Venice, Fly Home next day

Hello Everyone,

A family of 4, traveling Italy from Rome to Venice (2 weeks). We have one night in Venice in June. We will be driving to the airport, dropping off our rental car. We will get transfers to our hotel, drop off our stuff, go explore Venice until the evening. The next day we fly to the US at 10am.

We need to book a hotel. What is a better option: booking a hotel near the airport or in Venice Island? If we do book a hotel near the airport, how do we get to Venice Island or which hotel has transfers?

We all appreciate any suggestions. Thank you very much for your time.

With a 10 am flight you should stay at a hotel near airport. Is that flight going direct to US- or are you changing planes somewhere in Europe?
I doubt any of the hotels there offer a shuttle/transfer.

From the airport- take the ACTV bus to Piazzale Roma- bus stops right in front of terminals then bus back to airport when your day in Venice is over. Take a taxi to/from your airport hotel

Or you could take water taxis both ways- about 120 euros each way

Here's a list of hotels near the airport from booking.com. I can vouch for the first one, Annia Park Hotel, and I see a Marriott further down. You can filter the search for airport shuttles. I agree that it would be a good idea to spend that night near the airport, it can take quite awhile to get there from a hotel in Venice itself, especially early in the morning.

Unfortunately, these airport hotels are very unlikely to have any kind of shuttle service to and from Venice itself, so you'll need to go to the airport to get a bus or water taxi to the city, unless you want to spring for a taxi (the kind that drives on roads). But your hotel will have better information about that.

I hope this is helpful. Too bad you won't have more time to spend in Venice on this trip. Hopefully you'll return.

We stayed one night at the Venice Marriott Courtyard hotel which is about five minutes from the airport, but it's not walkable. They did have an airport shuttle when we were there.
From outside the front entrance of the hotel, across the street, is the city bus, which goes to Piazza Roma, about 20 minutes. The hotel sold bus tickets for about 3 euros. From Piazza Roma you can catch the vaporetto and explore The city.
Safe travels!

Thank you for all the great information. This information was extremely helpful. I will stay in a hotel near the airport and find convenient transportation to Venice island. I wish I had more time, but we had to cut our two day trip to Venice down to one day. We start in Rome, go to Sorrento, go to Florence, a few hours in Pisa, go to see our Italian family in Bassano the grandpa, and our one day in Venice. This will be my husband and our kids first trip to Italy.
