1 Day trips from Rome

Hello,
I would appreciate any suggestions for a day trip (prefer bus) outside of Rome in November.
We are considering the Amalfi Coast but it sounds like it would be much more enjoyable to go there for a couple of days.
We aren't looking for ruins but natural beauty. Scenic old towns, beautiful coastlines.
I would appreciate any recommendations and also any places and tour operators to avoid.
I will be traveling with my best friend of 55 years and this is her first time to Italy. We are taking this trip to celebrate our 65th birthdays. Thank you for your time!

Orvieto is a possibility. You could go up on the train, cross the street, then take the funicular up the cliff to the historic part of town.

Orvieto is a good choice. The train is the best way to get there. And service is frequent enough to give you plenty of time to enjoy a beautiful city and the beautiful views. Another possiblity is Assisi. Again, train is the best travel option. The station is below the medieval city - bus or taxi are very easy ways to get up to a very special place.

Sorry, I don't think the Amalfi Coast is really doable. It's just too far and I don't think you want to spend that much time on trains and buses. However, a day trip to Pompeii isn't out of the question. Ostia Anticha is much closer to Rome and certainly offers plenty of ruins to wander through.

Happy Birthday! You both deserve this trip!!!
