1 day left in Rome, I need a cheap transportation from Venice (VCE airport) to Rome

Hello,

I need cheap transportation from Venice (VCE airport) to Rome (my flight leaves after 9pm from FCO). How do you suggest I spend my time? A friend and I will already have seen the Colloseum, etc. I will also have a large suitcase I will be lugging around. Thank you

It would help to have some further information on your travel plans. Are you arriving at Venice airport on a flight from the U.S., and then planning to go directly to Rome?

The "cheapest transportation" will be an advance purchase Super Economy ticket on a fast train such as Freccia or Italo. However it's not usually advisable to buy advance tickets to connect with an inbound flight.

More information on your plans would help......

Hi Ken,

The night before I will be arriving to Venice from Paris with a friend. (We already paid for the hotel in Venice so i thought I should leave from there but i'm open, I don't have to stay there, I could go directly to Rome).

I could stay in Venice overnight, leave the next morning for Rome, sightsee and catch a flight after 9pm or spend 2 days in Paris and travel to Rome for that flight. What website would I buy the Freccia or Italo from? If I chose that option? Thank you

As I understand your description you need transport from Venice (either Venice proper or Mestre) not from the airport.

Find the cheapest train on http://www.italotreno.it/en or http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en.

The sooner you book, the cheaper it will be. Be sure to choose the correct starting station (Venezia S. Lucia or Venezia Mestre) depending on where your hotel is.

Sorry, forgot to tell you i'm staying in an airport hotel so it looks like the Venezia Mestre station is the closest train station. Thank you for your response.

If you're staying close to Venezia Mestre, it's VERY easy. This is what I'd recommend....

  • Go to the Trenitalia or Italo websites and decide which train departure you want to use. You'll be using high speed trains, which have compulsory seat reservations (those will be provided with your ticket). Both rail networks have about the same travel time, so pick whichever one best fits your timing and budget. One important point to note is that some Italo trains may terminate at Roma Tiburtina or other stations in Rome, rather than Roma Termini. Be sure to note which station the train arrives at when you're researching which one to use.
  • When you're ready to buy, go to the www.captaintrain.com website and purchase your tickets. You'll have to register on the site first and provide your credit card details. After that it's very easy, and they even have an App for that.
  • On departure day, go to the station and board your train. One important point to note however - the tickets you buy for the fast trains will be specific to train, date and departure time and can ONLY be used on the ONE train listed on the ticket. If you board the wrong train by mistake, you'll be subject to hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!
  • Travel time on the high speed trains will be ~3H:33M.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it! I purchased a ticket with Italo. It was an interesting experience, for some reason it kept reverting back to a different terminal than what I chose, it even changed the date at one point, I had to keep changing it back. So fyi, just be careful when booking a ticket, that it is accurate. Thanks again. Take care
