1 Day in Naples

This December we are cruising and have 1 day in Naples (8am-6PM) - we picked the Amalfi Coast to visit while there. My question is getting there. Do we take a ferry? or Private Tour (a bit pricey)? Is a day enough time or should we change our plans.
Of coarse my fear is not getting back to the boat on time . How far is the Amalfi Coast from the port? Any suggestions are more than welcome

December may not be ideal for visiting the Amalfi coast, if the weather doesn't cooperate. I wouldn't purchase a tour unless you can cancel the trip in case of bad weather. With the SITA bus you can go from Naples all the way to Amalfi and back. Or you can take the vesuviana train to sorrento and the bus from there. By boat from Naples is another option, if the sea isn't too rough that day. You are on the ground for 10 hours, therefore that's enough time to go back and forth with any means of transport. Give yourself 3 hours each way just to make sure (although 2 may be enough with the fastest bus runs). If the weather doesn't cooperate, you could also opt for some indoor visiting in Naples itself. Naples is a beautiful city and there are plenty of museums, including the worldwide famous Archeological Museum. Pompeii is another option too. Closer than the Amalfi coast.
