1 day in Cinque Terre possible?

Hi! Really want to visit Cinque Terre but only have 5 days in Italy. Was thinking Rome and Florence with a possible day trip to Cinque Terre? Is that possible? Too hectic?

Thanks!

5 days in Italy, excluding arrival and departure days?

Splitting 5 days between Rome and Florence will be hectic enough. Adding CT borders on craziness.

Hi Carly -
I'm thinking as well that trying to do just Florence and Rome in 5 days will be PLENTY hectic. To get a better picture of the time you'll realistically have to work with, what day do you arrive in Italy and where, and what day are you departing and from where? Is Italy part of a bigger itinerary that includes other countries, or are you flying in or out of it to/from Denver?

Would leave it for another time, if you start in Rome you would have to get a couple of trains then the same again to get to Florence IMO it is to much for such a short trip if you were doing ten days then yes definitely but five days no way.

Yes it is possible kind of hectic because the length of time it takes to get there and back but if you are by yourself go for it if you if you feel you've had enough with Florence.

Thanks everyone! I will have been in Europe for a few days already. I'll be coming from Paris to Italy the morning of 3/10 but I need to get to Amsterdam the night of 3/15. Fly back to the States 3/16.

In my regular life I plan every detail and wanted to keep things loose in case I LOVE Rome for example.

I wanted to do CT because it looks stunning and different than all the big cities I'll be traveling to.

I'll be solo except a few days in Rome when a friend living in Turkey will meet me.

Also any advice on getting back to Amsterdam from Florence? I thought I'd just fly out but seems a lot of people train to Pisa rather than flying from Florence ?

THANK YOU / Grazie ! 🙂

Hi back Carly!

OK, so you realistically have 4 full days and fractions of two others (or maybe only one) to work with. A "few" days will be in Rome: how many is a few? The 10th, 11th and 12th? That leaves you just two days for Florence, and part of one of them will be eaten up in the transfer process. The CT would be an all-day trip so I guess whether you do it or not depends on just how much of Florence you want to see? Personally, I would put it on hold for another trip.

I guess you also could decide based on the weather on the one day it may be possible to make the trip? You could scratch the plan if it's rainy or otherwise not very nice.

Personally, I'd spend all the Italian time in one place with a possible side-trip or two. Doing anything else is going to cut into sightseeing time that is already painfully short. Rome with a day to Orvieto would be a good combination. Or Florence with a day or two to Siena or Lucca, or perhaps a tour to smaller towns in the area.

Actually, I wouldn't subject myself to two flights for so little time in Italy; I'd go somewhere closer to Paris and Amsterdam that didn't involve airports. But I understand that Rome is a must because of the meet-up with your friend.

I do not know how you search but there are 3 direct flights a day to Amsterdam from Florence and just one from Pisa

We went to CT on a day trip by train from Lucca. It was enough time to see a few of the towns. We did not hike however, that would take more time. I would say do it, CT is beautiful!
