#1 Bus Florence to Siena

We have less than a month till we leave for Florence. I have looked on the SITA site for buses from Florence to Siena. Is there a posted schedule at the station too? We want to take an early bus to Siena and return late afternoon. Can you buy the round trip tickets in the morning and where does it drop you off in Siena. Is it two separate tickets and validate each as you use them? Do you pick up the bus in the same place for the return trip? Knowing that the times may be an estimate for departure.

It is Italy you know :) Thanks

Mike,

As you may now, the SITA bus station in Florence is close to Firenze SMN rail station. I don't remember whether they have schedules posted in the station? Have a look at these schedules......

Note that these schedules are for the Corse Rapide (Express) bus which is quicker, as it doesn't stop as often.

You'll be dropped in Siena at Piazza Gramsci, which is in the main part of town. I believe you will receive two separate tickets, and these will have to be validated. You'll depart Siena from about the same place. As I recall, the arrival area is on one side of the street, and the departure area on the other.

Looking out the side door of the train station, there will be a McDonalds restaurant across the street. The buses line up to the right of McDonalds and around the block behind that building.

The bus to Siena leaves often, and it takes you into the city center of Siena. If you took the train, it'd take you longer and the train station is out in the suburbs. You'd have to take a local bus into the city.

The train station in Siena is not out in the suburbs, it's at the bottom of the hill, but it's more convenient to take the bus. The bus terminal ticket office is to your right as you exit Santa Maria Novella station, schedules are posted inside. You can buy a roundtrip ticket (andare e ritorno) but it may be two separate pieces of paper.

Thanks for the input. I guess as long as we know where to board bus coming back is the important place. Want to make late night dinner in Florence before heading to suburban hotel. Lots of help, very much appreciated.
