1 and 2 trains

The last time we were in Italy, there were trains with cars marked with a large number "1" or a large number "2". Do those numbers indicate first and second class? Thanks!

Yes. 1st and 2nd. However many trains (Frecciarossa) now have different categories (in increasing order of price):
Standard, Business, Business Silence (no talking), Business salottino (suite), Executive

If you are taking any but Regional,trains you will have a reserved seat in a specific car. The number of the car will be on your ticket, and that is what you need to look for.
