1/2 Day Fishing Trip in Cinque Terra

I tired the suggestions in Rick Steves Italy guidebook ... none offer a fishing trip in the Cinque Terra or at least currently.

Does anyone have suggestions and/or direct experience?

Seeking 1/2 day fishing trip for a party of six on June 16th.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have already check with the hotel. They provided one ( nord-est-vernazza.it) but their website makes no mention of fishing trips offered. Sent an inquiry ... awaiting a reply.

The other option is to head south to La Spezia and the busy harbor there where many different charters are possible.

These are not recommendations - just listings -

I don't know if it would work out timing-wise but taking the ferry from CT to La Spezia would put you on the harbor, but the harbor is big so that's not a guarantee you'll be close. The train station is still a ways - probably about a mile - from the closest part of the harbor where the CT ferry pier is.

Good luck,

Tod:

Thanks for your input. I checked the travel time ... 18 minutes by train which is doable. I shall contact your recommendation to see what they have to offer.

Given the time change and day of the week, I do not expect any replies until tomorrow at the soonest.

I grew up fishing and spearfishing in San Diego. On a long youthful trip bumming around Europe, I did some fishing and spearing in the Mediterranean. Maybe don't have high expectations. Local fish populations in the Med might have recovered since way back when I tried fishing and spearing, but generally speaking fishing was pretty weak, small fish not a lot of them.

I did spear an octopus in the crater on Santorini. It was pretty big. I took it to a restaurant and traded it for a couple of meals. In retrospect I wish I hadn't speared it. Would have been better to leave it in the ecosystem, Plus back then I didn't realize how smart and interesting octopus are.

EDIT: just remembered Anthony Bourdain booking a "fake fishing" trip in Sicily. Absolutely classic :)

Very good points raised!

I did not know that the CInque Terra was a protected area. Still awaiting replies. This causes me to shift my thoughts to a sunset sail.

Fishing in Lake Michigan did not disappoint, caught the max allowed and fish were a good size.

Anthony Bourdain video was hilarious but also a warning about expectations dashed. Seems that a sunset cruise is the best option.

My Vernazza hotel's recommendation, nord-est-vernazza.it replied. They do not offer fishing because the Cinque Terra area is protected.

I find it confusing that Pevea Boat rentals in Levanto (http://www.pevea.it/en/Page/914/home) offers fishing according to their website. I do not know where they are fishing and the type of equipment they have onboard to increase the opportunity of catching fish. I am still awaiting a reply.
