Where to stay in Varenna?

Traveling to Varenna in October and looking for a nice place to stay. Private, with easy access to Lake Como. Thanks!

Moonbem,

We enjoyed our stay at Albergo Milano in Varenna. We stayed in one of their apartments ( Casa Gialla) which included a delicious breakfast served at the hotel's terrace overlooking the lake.

I'd suggest you post your question on the Italy forum (under Destinations Q & A) where you'll get more replies.

You may also find more suggestions on this recent thread: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/lago-como

Enjoy Varenna!

I second Albergo Milano. We had a nice room overlooking the lake. Good food there too!

We have been to Lake Como three times, and each time we stayed at Hotel du Lac. Absolutely loved it! Great breakfast and views, wonderful rooms. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

My wife and I just returned from Varenna last week where we stayed at the Royal Victoria. What a fantastic hotel with amazing views, a pool and breakfast was included.

Stay at Albergo Olivedo. Laura whom some say is stern and officious is an absolute dear when you get to know her. The hotel has rooms with fantastic views of the lake. The rooms have a charming old world quality, but modern efficient
bathrooms. There is now an elevator which makes for easy baggage handling and increases the desirability of upper floor rooms.
The restaurant serves local seafood and other Lombardian dishes. We have always had fine, basic Italian dinners here. The prices are reasonable. The dining room is charmingly antique. The prices for both rooms and food are
right in the moderate very affordable range. This is our fourth stay here, and Laura treated us like old friends when we arrived. Rick Steves needs to really start promoting this place with real vigor. It reflects is exactly what his travel philosophy is all about.

I stayed at Hotel Olivedo last month and loved it. We had a large beautiful room with a view of the lake. The bathroom was large and modern while the room was old fashioned and charming. I would stay there again.

The hotel Olivedo also has a villa that Laura rents out next to the Hotel, they have a terrace that you can sit on and watch the ferry boats come and go.Laura even made a reservation in Castelrutto for us,she is a good person.
