Good morning, does anyone have any suggestions for where to stay in Sorrento? We are taking a tour, but will be extending our visit to Italy with a 4 day visit to the Sorrento-Amalfi Coast. Need hotel recommendations that are convenient to walking everywhere.
Thanks !
Hotel Antica Mura is about a 10 minute walk from the train station, close to Piazza Tasso, and very convenient overall. Great breakfast and excellent staff.
Sorrento books up six months or more in advance. You are likely to have to take your fifth choice of hotel in Sorrento, so don't put off your decision too long. There are a huge number of hotels in all price ranges. The downtown area is quite level and walkable. But some hotels are up in the hills, particularly package-tour hotels. While they may be cheaper, you can't really walk downtown from them.
We stayed in what Rick Steves (our host here) describes in his book as a "Worthwhile Splurge", the Ambasciatori Grand. It's one of the few, and big, hotels on the cliffside. Rooms with serous views or balconies cost extra. There are inland facing rooms, too. There's a private swimming platform in the Gulf, reached by the lobby elevators. But we never went in the water. The hotel pool deck was attractive, with similar views. Some people would say that this is a long walk from the Circumvesuviana station with luggage, and it is. But we loved seeing Vesuvius beyond the foot of our bed.
Another vote for Hotel Antiche Mura; very nice hotel with terrific staff and lovely breakfast. It also has a tranquil garden with a pool and pool bar. Walking distance (for most) from the Sorrento train station, and just a block or so from Piazza Tasso. No sea views but as there are plenty of opportunities for those while out and about, we didn't miss 'em. :O)
If you're on a budget, take a look at the Hostel Ulisse Deluxe. It has a few group rooms, but it's much more a hotel than a a hostel. We've stayed there and loved it. It's convenient to all the sights, including the beach. Some RS tours do stay there; we were there on our own, but there was a RS tour there that same time. Great staff, and lovely spacious public areas.
We rented an apartment in a great location, Eden House, on via Correale, very centrally located. Sweeping views to Mt Vesuvius from the front balconies and mountains from the rear. balconies.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel De La Ville several years ago. It was a great location- 8 min. walk to train station, etc. Well appointed rooms with stunning views of the gulf. Roof top bar, pool and excellent breakfast buffet. www.delavillesorrento.com
A few years ago we stayed at the Tasso Suites. Good location in the middle of town. Rooms were nice, the staff were friendly, and they offered a free breakfast at a nearby restaurant. I'd stay there again.
Another vote for Hotel Antica Mura or if you love a B&B, we LOVED Villa Monica - it's on TripAdvisor, and while it's not in downtown, the views there are stunning and they run a shuttle into town all day and night long.
Hello,
I would suggest also to consider to take a look on airbnb accomodation. You could find something in the surronding area but in this way You can save some money. Remember that the best sea and the best beaches are in the surronding not in the center. I would suggest to think to rent a scooter if You're planning to visit Sorrento area during the Summer.
