My girlfriend and I plan to spend 4 nights in Positano. We want to make that our home base for a few day trips to Capri, Sorrento, Naples, and maybe other small towns along the Amalfi Coast. We've found a really cute B&B in Montepertuso, which appears to be about a 20 minute walk to the Positano center. Though the location may not be 100% ideal, we think the views will be totally worth it. Has anyone had any experience staying in Montepertuso. Is it worth staying out there if we want to spend some time taking the previously mentioned day tours?
We have been to Positano before and we loved it so much we are going back this year and staying for 2 weeks. The B&B we are staying at is called Venus Inn and the views are spectacular. Gippy, the owner, is very nice and the price of the rooms is really reasonable. It is not a really high end place, rooms are small, but the views as I said are wonderful. If your looking for a fancy place to stay, this is probably not for you. But we spend so little time in the room, that it is perfect for us. And you can get to all the places you mentioned by either bus, train or ferry. Can't wait to go back.
We enjoyed our stay in Sept, just above Arienzo beach, easy 15 min walk into Positano with bus stop at doorstep. Managed by Eden Roc hotel.

Friends recommend La Rosa right in town. http://www.larosadeiventi.net/directions/
Thanks, bgarrow and Marika. I will check those out.
I have stayed in Positano twice, both times at the Alcione Residence.

Its 5 minutes from the town center. The views of Positano are the best from your personal balcony.
Sorry I do not know anything about Montepertuso.
Good luck.
I stayed in Montepertuso during my honeymoon. The airbnb was Colle Del'Ara and it was amazing - definitely off the beaten path but there's ways around town for sure. Where are you staying?
Thanks for all the great tips! I'm staying at L'Uliveto. It's definitely off the beaten path from what I see, but everywhere I've read people say that the walk down to Positano isn't that bad, or that buses are pretty reliable.
