We stayed at Hotel La Badia di Orvieto. Just lovely! And the food was fantastic.

Loved my stay at the Hotel Duomo, steps away from the Duomo, good breakfast, nice rooms and staff, valet parking available. Great meal at Trattoria Da Carlo, Vicolo Primo del Popolo 5 - reservations highly advised. Wonderful pizza and pasta at Charlie, Vicolo Primo del Popolo 5.

We stayed at Hotel Corso in October 2021. We walked to it on the from the top of funicular into town. Breakfast was included, and they were happy to store our bags after we checked out and spent additional time in town before catching an afternoon train. Great location, short walk to the main square but a little more secluded, quiet part of the town.

Lunch at L’Oste del Re, in the shadow of the Torre del Moro. Dinner at Trattoria da Carlo.

La Palomba (The Dove) is a restaurant where Rick Steves has been known to eat. They have his picture with the owner. I had a delicious lunch there a few months ago and recommend. You will see locals there as well as tourists.

We stayed at the Hotel Duomo Orvieto. It was very close to the duomo and the square and yet very quiet. The rooms and beds were comfortable and the breakfast very good. https://www.orvietohotelduomo.com/en/

For lunch, we ate on a patio overlooking the duomo, and I don't remember the name, but we had dinner at Antico Bucchero, and it was one of our favourite meals in Italy: https://www.orvietoviva.com/en/antico-bucchero/ I had the wild boar stew with salad, and DH had the lamb chops and tiramisu for dessert.

I was just about to recommend Antico Bucchero! Perhaps the outdoor cafe by the Duomo is Cantina Foresi? A favorite of ours for an Aperol spritz, a light meal and some Duomo gazing. For a morning cappuccino I like Dolceamaro on Corso Cavour as well as The Palace at Piazza del Popolo.

It wasn't Cantina Foresi, and I can't tell it's name from the map, either. Do you see the white square with 6 smaller, white rectangles in front of it, just across from the corner of the duomo? It looks to be in the same building as the pottery store and the linens store. That was it. It was one of the few places open with outdoor seating on a November mid-afternoon. https://www.google.it/maps/@42.717072,12.1124761,85m/data=!3m1!1e3

OK, I know which place you are talking about but don’t know the name, either. One non-food recommendation for people who like to shop is the L’Arpia pottery shop on Corso Cavour with designs based on ancient Etruscan pieces.

Just happened across the name in my notes: Bar Caffeteria Hescanas. It's great for watching the square and the front of the duomo.

We spent a week in Orvieto several years ago and had lunch at Mezza Luna.
It’s a small restaurant somewhat away from the main area but has the best carbonara.
Has newspaper articles posted that they have been voted best carbonara in Italy.
We needed to make reservations for lunch and did so early that same day.
Popular with locals.
