Verona

Does anyone have a recomendation for a nice hotel in Verona that is not a large multinational chain?
Thank you!

I second the Hotel Giulietta e Romeo recommendation.

You might want to also check with Hotel Torcolo. We stayed there several years ago and would do so again. Good location near Piazza Bra and within walking distance of the Roman Coliseum, Roman theater, Ponte Scaligero, Basilica San Zeno, the Dante statue, Piazza Erbe, Della Scala tombs, Castelvecchio, and just meandering around the old historic district. Avoid the fake "Juliet's Balcony" and her fake tomb -- just touristy come-ons. Enjoy the many restaurants between Piazza Bra and Piazza Erbe, but examine menus carefully because donkey and horse meat are frequently listed.

Carne d'asino ... thanks for the heads up, I don't think I've ever seen it on a menu or noticed it anywhere in butcher shops.

We also recommend Hotel Giulietta e Romeo. We walked everywhere from the Hotel. Very friendly staff.
