Venice's Hilton Molino Stucky?

Hi all!
We are taking a cruise -and thinking of booking the pre-cruise 2 night stay in Venice. There is an option for the Hilton Molino. Keeping in mind we have never been to Venice or Italy, would this be a decent stay for first time visitors?
Also-if you have any fabulous dining recs that are nearby, I would welcome them!

Thank you:)

The Molino Stucky is removed from the rest of Venice, and you will have to take boats to get anywhere else. The good news is that the hotel has its own free shuttle boat to Piazza San Marco, and there are also local boats (vaporetti) that stop near there.

So, if you want to be able to walk from your hotel to other places in Venice, it won't work. Otherwise, it should be fine. I have no personal experience with the hotel (its reputation is good).

Hi there-
I haven't stayed at this Hilton and wouldn't choose it personally because of its location: it's a 20-minute shuttle boat ride away from the main part Venice. With only 2 nights and 1 FULL day to spend in the city, I'd book accommodations IN the city instead of so far away. One of the complaints about this property is that their shuttle either doesn't operate early enough in the day and/or guests have had to wait 40 minutes for the next shuttle when it's full. Other guests found getting to/from the property to be complicated and inconvenient in general.

Explore the different methods and $$ it takes to get there from different arrival points in Venice:

This is also what I call a nickle-dime-to-death hotel, which we don't personally care for but I understand that we all have different preferences. :O)

I’m sure it’s a nice hotel but it’s not in Venice proper. To appreciate Venice you need to stay there. Getting up with the pigeons and wandering before the hoards descend is so enjoyable. You can’t do that from the Hilton. Stay in a place such as this, our favorite: https://www.hotelflora.it/. Request a larger room overlooking the courtyard (be specific, some rooms are tiny). As for dining, unfortunately it’s all to easy to eat badly in Venice. It’s been more than 5 years since we visited so perhaps others will have recent experience. We’ve been several times and our best meals happened when we were lost (you will get lost, it’s part of the charm) and we’d wander across a little place without an English menu where families were dining. A few bowls of risotto sepia and a pitcher of Prosecco later we’d magically find our hotel. This place however is classic: https://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-information/restaurant/details/vcegl-the-gritti-palace-a-luxury-collection-hotel-venice/5955898/. At least have a cocktail, dine if you can. And if you can afford to stay there, well, you may not want to get on the ship!

I got the Molino Stucky at a great price via Priceline. I was ecstatic...until I realized it's not actually on Venice Island. It's on Guidecca Island which is NOT what people come to Venice to see. Hence - its low price for a 5-star hotel. It was a pain to have to take the boat across the canal on "their" schedule to get to Venice Island.

Bottom line - it's just not worth it.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on a visit to Venice. We actually liked being away from the hoards and being able to take a break, while going across the canal at our leisure. The boat ride across is less than five minutes; it’s literally just across the canal. If the hotel doesn’t run at the time that you want, then there are plenty of public boats to take you across. The view from the rooftop bar is outstanding.

Giudecca is a true Venetian neighborhood and we enjoyed walking the island and having dinner at a local restaurant. It’s true that if you want to be in the heart of the crowds then you would want to stay closer in, but we didn’t find the shuttle situation to be an issue at all.

The crowds are only there when the day trippers come and the cruise ships dump their passengers...otherwise morning and evening are fantastic.

But the issue here is that the OP is only going to have 1 full day to explore Venice so little if any "leisure" time to hang out/take breaks at the hotel during the day...or not unless that's what they want to do, anyway. The golden hours before the hordes arrive and after they leave is also a great time to be located in Venice proper.

Thank you all for the great responses and insight!
I truly appreciate everyone's input. I realize everybody has a different "style" of travel, and the replies were very helpful. :)
