Venice Restaurant recommendations

If you have any favorites, please send them along. We are going in May. Our 4th time, but can't think of any special meal we have enjoyed there.

Thanks!

If you have Netflix, you might watch Somebody Feed Phil. It is a travel/food show and he does a good episode on Venice.

I can only tell you where not to go. Of all the restaurants in Venice we only had one bad experience and that was the Hard Rock Cafe, the worst food I have ever been served. Maybe we hit it on a off night but it was terrible.

Thank you, Donald, for saving me a trip to the HRC in Venice.

I learned years ago (1976 or so) that diners get a poor imitation of "American" fare at HRCs which are in other countries. Nachos? Egg rolls? Onion Rings? Chicken wings?

When in Italy, eat Italian is my best advice. Of course, in Paris you can get the Royale with cheese at the local McDonald's. That may be the exception to the locavore rule.

If you like seafood: Osteria alle Testerie is highly regarded and my sister and her husband (fairly serious “foodies” loved it. We could not get in although I tried for reservations 2 weeks ahead.

hey hey ptrantow
everyone has so many different opinions. i went to ristorante da nino right on the grand canal across the train station. a great view of the canal and people watching. sat outside under umbrellas, watching the world go by. loved their tiramisu and my local growers of champagne. a local couple with their family from padova sat next to me and just talked about everything. they owned a vineyard and mom and dad from united states visiting grandkids was a great day

Vineria all'Amarone wine bar - ate there on our last night when my mom came with us in 2015 - when we went back in 2019, we ate there two more times, and when we ever get back to Venice, I'll return!
