Venice Hotel/B&B

Hi, I am trying to find a hotel in Venice to stay the night before our May 21st tour. The tours hotel - Pensione Guerrato is already fully booked. Can someone recommend a place near there so I don't have far to cart my luggage? I haven't been to Venice so I'm not really sure of what I'm in for. We will be arriving from London flying into Marco Polo airport. Appreciate your help!

Send Pensione Guerrato an email, explain the situation, and ask where they recommend. They might suggest a place close enough that you can walk from it to the tour hotel without much difficulty. We've stayed at Pensione Guerrato a number of times so if you wind up booking a place so far away that you have to take a vaporetto to the tour hotel let me know. We can give you info on a short cut to decrease the distance you have to walk to Guerrato. We've been to Venice a number of times so feel free to pick our brains.

Find the Pensione on Booking.com . Using the map feature, browse nearby hotels; check the reviews and prices and book one that has free cancellation.

Meantime, maybe something will open up at Pensione Guerrato. Emailing them isn't a bad idea.

Laura

I'd do as TC suggests too.

They have contacts and apartments around; I'm sure it isn't the first time that a RS group has booked them out, especially at such a prime time, and I'm sure that they will try to help you.

They took very good care of me when I stayed there - I like it very much.

In many years of visiting Venice I have stayed in many places.

I'm sure you will do fine, and your trip will be unforgetable!!!

Last summer, Pensione Guerrato recommended nearby Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo to us because they had no rooms available for our dates. We had a very good stay at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo.

I also stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo several years ago, when Pensione Guerrato was full. It's a lovely small hotel, with wonderful, friendly staff, and easily reached from P. Guerrato. It's about a 12 minute walk from one to the other (though the walk includes about 4 smallish bridges, with stairs) or take the vaporetto approx. 4 stops from San Stae stop (Mocenigo) to Mercado stop (Guerrato) - though each hotel is just steps away from the vaporetto stop, and there are no bridges to cross from the vaporetto stops to the hotels.

Thank you for all your help! I have booked Al Ponte Mocenigo and look forward to staying there. Glad to hear it's close to the Guerrato as well.

If you take the vaporetto from the stop nearest your first hotel to Pensione Guerrato, take vap. # 1 (the "slow" boat that stops at every stop) to the Mercato (or Rialto Mercato) stop. It will be on the "right" side of the canal and is the stop after Ca' d Oro which is on the "left" side of the canal. Do not go all the way to Rialto Bridge -- you will have cross over the bridge an have a longer walk to the hotel.

When you get off the vap. at the Mercato stop, walk straight ahead through an arched doorway. There will be a small plaza slightly to your left. Turn right and walk straight. If there are a lot of vendors in the walking area, be sure they are all on your right side so you do not miss the next turn. Before you get to the place where the building juts out in front of you, turn left on a small street named Calle drio la Scimia and look for the hotel sign on the left.

If you go to bing.com and use the map feature you can get very good aerial photos of both areas and vap. stop locations. If you go to googlemaps.com, you can get not only aerial photos, but street level views as well so you can virtually walk the route before you get there. Takes a bit of experimentation to get the hang of it, but it is great for getting the lay of the land.

About 4 years ago we spent 4 nights at Al Ponte Mocenigo. They were very friendly and easy to work with. When I booked with them I asked about a RS discount. They said, show us your book and we will give you a discount. They did. They also had guide books for guests to borrow, most of which were RS books. We liked the hotel and people very much.

Hope you have a great time! Are you on the Venice, Florence, Rome tour?
