Venice - Hotel Ala (Best Western) Review

We stayed here for 3 nights as our first location on first trip to Italy and loved everything about it!

The Alilaguna Orange line which comes directly from the airport and down the Grand Canal stops at San Giglio from there it was just a few steps to the hotel- no bridges or stairs- could not have been easier! We arrived about 11:00 am and our room was ready.
Location was excellent- 5 min to San Marco, 5 min to Rialto- situated on a quiet campo and canal. Our room overlooked a canal and had a small balcony- we could watch and listen to the singing gondoliers passing by. Room was small but very clean, comfortable, VERY comfortable bed and a rather large bathroom with tub. Hotel has a small roof terrace, not a great view from there but a nice place to sit with a glass of wine.
Staff was always friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Breakfast was very good- possibly our best in Italy-scrambled eggs, cold cuts/cheese and lots of pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, etc. Good coffee.
Wifi was good- you have to get a new username/password each day for each device.
Bar downstairs was fun, great bartender there!

Suggest booking on the hotel's website for best rates.

(Noticed a RS My Way Tour checking in as we were checking out).

I'll forward your suggestion to our guidebook editor for consideration when we research the next edition. The guidebook researchers may try to make contact when they are on assignment in Europe next year. I am sure the people in Europe appreciate your message to us and, hopefully, we will be able to visit with them in the future.

Thanks again for taking the time to write to us!

I have stayed at Hotel Ala several times and I cannot praise the place or the people enough! ChristineH describes it accurately. What I would add is that every year I hear "welcome home Roberto" even before I reach the desk. The housekeeping staff always say something like "I wondered when you would be back. Let me know if you need anything." In the breakfast room every morning I heard "do you want your cappucino now, Roberto?" Could you feel more welcome?!?!?
Ala is also in just the right location. 5 minutes to San Marco, 5 minutes to the Accademia. 50 meters to the vaporetto where you can catch the boat or just gaze at La Salute. Great little shop for fresh sandwiches, snacks and wine right over the bridge next to the hotel.
I've tried some of Rick's recommendations before deciding to give all my business to Hotel Ala. Rick's choices were fine, nothing wrong with them. For me I could not see them as being my "home" in Venice.
