Vallelunga Pratameno, Caltanissetta, Sicily Italy

Hi all, I've been doing research on our Triana Family Tree and found that I can get back to the early 1800s in the Village of Vallelunga Pratameno, Caltanissetta, Sicily Italy. That being said,

1) I'm wondering if anyone could help me out with the name, website, and reservation system that could find me a nice B&B in the small village of Vallelunga Pratameno, Caltanissetta, Sicily Italy so I can try and do some more research on our family tree?

2) How to find a local person to translate, Sicilian to English when we go to the local Church and Town Hall to see if there are any records for the few days we will be there?

Thank you very much, we appreciate any help.

I entered the town’s name in Booking.com and several places to stay were found there or nearby.
Ask at the church and/or at your BnB for a translator. Good luck with your genealogy search.

Take a look at link below for genealogy and general info on your ancestral town . I have never used their services but they may be able to direct you to someone who can help.

Vallelunga Pratamena genealogy info. Take a look at the Tripadvisor forums for your town and the province of Caltannissetta and search there for info or post your questions to see what replies you get. Italiangen.org also has a good forum where someone may be able to answer your questions.

On google maps there is one BnB inducated in the actual town . You may have to look at neighboring towns for lodging. The town’s commune office, Catholic church and cemetery will all be key to your search. Do you know if you have any distant cousins still living there? Check the white pages and just ask in town when there. In such a small town everybody will know everybody and probably be very willing to help. If you have found online civil records from your ancestors they contain a wealth of information. Civil records of birth from the 1800s will list the street , possibly the house number and the neighborhood where birth took place as well as parents’ age and occupations. With that info you can go see the house at least from the street and if you see anyone around ask if they know anything about the family.

The church records may go back much farther than 1800. Familysearch lists the Caltanissetta diocese records but I think they may only be accessible from one of their library centers as I could not find an online link. My family was from a small mountain town in Palermo province and I was able to find online church records to the 1400s. Good luck with your ancestry search. I find it to be extremely rewarding and I have visited my grandparents’ town twice and met relatives, a beautiful experience. Also check to see if there are any special town celebrations or patron saint feast days happening at the time you are there. That would be great fun to attend and each town usually has several special religious, historical and civic celebrations but remember that at that time there may be government and church office closures so plan accordingly.
