Trattoria da Erminio in Assisi. Wow!

We loved it so much we ate there both nights. They cook meat over a wood fire. The lamb was great. The best dish was their lasagne. Unlike any we have ever had. Melts in your mouth tender.

Sounds very familiar. My wife & I were in Assisi this past May for 2 days. We found da Erninio on the RS town walk. Ate there both nights. Tried different items both evenings, including the vino. The meals were fantastic. Cooking over the embers did something magical to the various meats.

Also stayed at the Hotel Ideale. Can't wait to return.

Thank you for this recommendation. We are going to Assisi again in June. I love that little town. Wish I could spend more time there. What is the location of this trattoria? street? Landmark? I really want to try it.

I have also enjoyed dining there twice. It's uphill from the Piazza del Commune, shown on Google Maps and Rick's map on p. 775 of the Italy book. Grilling in the dining room seems to be an Umbrian thing (based on the fact that I also found that practice in Gubbio).

I will also enjoy my first visit to Italy with RS tour in May and will add this restaurant to my "must do" list. Based on previous comments, I am really looking forward to this first visit. I would like to add that in an older version of RS Italy guidebook, this restaurant is closed on Thursdays and happily not within my 2-day tour window.
