Dumb Question? Can you purchase train tickets from any station for departures out of any other train station for a later date? Thank you, Hank

Smart Answer. Yes. In fact, they sell them out of vending machines. But I could not get separate tickets for the local FL trains in Rome from Venezia S. Lucia. They are considered "urban" tickets and you have to buy them locally.

To expand on Sam's response, short answer is yes. If you wish to use a ticket machine, you will need a credit card with a chip and you will need to know your PIN. I had no problem using either my "Chip & PIN" or my "Chip & Signature" card in Trenitalia ticket kiosks.
If have yet to try one of my new "Chip & PIN" debit cards overseas so I don't know their reliability.
