One night accommodations needed in Tirano after taking the Bernina Express train from Chur to Tirano in Italy. We have the afternoon to explore Tirano, yet want to be nearer to the train station for train travel onto Bologna the next day. Travels will be in April and hopefully cost less than 200 €. Thank you.

Ouff good question. Everyone one I know (including me) carries on to Milan after just passing through Tirano between the Bernina station and the Trenord station. You might consider doing the same, unless there is something you particularly want to see or do in Tirano.

There were some very recent posts on this forum that may be helpful for you. One that I can't seem to find right now recommended places to stay and eat in Tirano. There have also been some alerts of construction intrruptions on the Bernina route in early April. Sorry, I can't be more specific. I really liked staying in Varenna on Lake Como which would put you part way between Tirano and Milan on the same train line as Tirano However, if you want to walk around during daylight hours, you may want to check sunset time in relation to your arrival time.

With Varenna on Lake Como only 90 train-minutes away, that’s where I would make my way to after arriving in Tirano.
