I’ll be in Naples and Rome the last two weeks of September 2026. I’m a solo traveler. I like to plan to have at least one upscale meal per trip. Looking for recommendations in one or both cities. I like all types of food and want to keep the price under €125. Info about how far in advance I’d need to make reservations would be great.
I’ve done some research already and saved several places on Google Maps, but would love to hear from folks with personal experience. Thanks!

Pierluigi is a go-to upscale in the historic center. Favorite of many executives, celebrities, etc. Online reservations and even for tonight, you can snag an early table, like 7:30 or 8:00pm. Especially in summer, Italians will dine at 9:00 or later.

For Naples, go to Januarius. You’ll want a reservation. We loved it last fall. It has a Michelin Guide recommendation, but not a full Michelin star, so the price won’t be $$$$$$$, just €€.

I don't know if these would count as splurges, but we have our celebration dinners in Naples at either La Bersagleria or Zia Teresa in Santa Lucia. Both restaurants are beside the Castel San Elmo on the small harbor. While they are not new and trendy, they are reminiscent of Naples in the late 50's and early 60's. La Bersagleria is featured in the film "Journey to Italy" with Ingrid Bergman and Ray Milland. The seafood and pizzas are excellent.

We loved Boccano, a converted grand bank, located not far from Trevi fountain but a world away in terms of quiet, class, wonderful food and delightful service. It's not going to cost you that much money, more like €80 with alcohol. You can go at lunchtime as well, which is quite relaxing. The place starts to fill up around 1:30 / 2PM, don't know about the evening crowd. This is a slow down, take your time, enjoy the atmosphere type of restaurant!
