Hello, I have a family trip (2 adults, 2 children) coming up in Sept. Spending 3 nights in Rome, 3 nights in Praiano, and 3 nights in either Maiori or Sorrento. Looking for hotel suggestions for Sorrento. Budget around $1000 per night. Originally we had Maiori planned and booked, but I am thinking Sorrento might be a better option for us.
Looked at Hotel Grand Royal but the rooms can only accommodate 3 people per room. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
We were in Sorrento in June 2011 for our honeymoon, so it has been quite a while. Essentially, there are hotels in the center of town and then there are others up the hill (Via Capo) with the sweeping views of the bay. We stayed at La Tonarella, which we loved - it was a lovely hotel but also we had decided we liked the idea of staying a little bit up from the center (less than 10 minute walk) and having those views. There were many other hotels around there; I think Minerva and Settimo Cielo are two that RS used to recommend. I will say that when we took the bus back to Sorrento from Positano, it was quite an adventure, as the buses fill up very quickly and many passed by completely full before we can get on one. Once they finally got to Sorrento and made their way up the hill to the hotels in our area, I was glad that Tonarella was one of the earlier stops. There were several really nice hotels further up the hill from us, and those people had to be packed in like sardines for even longer!
