Sorrento Hotel: Ara Maris

I booked Ara Maris in Sorrento which is a new hotel that just opened up. It is considered a 5 star hotel. We booked the the top suite which has a very large outdoor space. I think the price is relatively good because of the newness of the hotel. Has anyone stayed at this hotel yet? It looks very nice and the reviews are also very good, but it's only been open a short period and I don't always trust new reviews for places.

I also booked a Jr Suite at Grand Hotel Ambasciatori which I know gets very good reviews. I'll be staying at one of these and wanted to release one of the reservations.

I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Ambasiatori and this property overlooks the sea. Obviously this is an older property than the Ara, which is new and contemporary. If you want to enjoy the view, and simple rooms that are conveniently located for walking in Sorrento, you may consider the Grand. If you want today's luxury of new, consider Ara.

Ambasciatori has private boardwalk swimming platforms and bar, reached by hotel elevator. Sorrento has only one 30' public beach, sandwiched between two busy marinas, with diesel odor.

Edit: There was nothing tired about our bright premium room with Vesuvius view and tiny plunge tub on the massive balcony. The colorful tile floor in the room was location-appropriate and cool, looked recently redone. Fierce air conditioning was a treat, even in May. Some ferry horn noise in daytime, unexpected gulf fireworks one night! Longer but nice walk to midtown. Nice pool deck top of cliff.
