Sicily restaurant suggestions- Palermo, Castelluccio & Catania

We are looking for dinner recommendations for these three cities/towns. Like most RS travelers we prefer the local small, owner run restaurants. Thank you.

I have a few suggestions for Palermo: Al cove dei Sapori on Bara All'Olivella was good. We particularly enjoyed the sea bass. The seafood risotto was also memorable. Host Giuseppe is part of the show. He told us he meets the boats every morning to select his fish and seafood for the day. Tiny little place, with crowded tables.

We enjoyed trying some of the local specialties, like porchetta or salsiccia sandwiches, at the Vucciria market, off Via Roma north of the Hotel Ambasciatori. And we had lunch one day at da Maurizo's, there at the market. It wasn't outstanding, but the proprietor actually opened up for us when the sandwich stands and shop were closed. The food was good, but the service was fantastic.

And finally, I had a wonderful lunch at a tiny trattoria called La Provenda, south of the Ambasciatori on Via Roma (toward the train station.) It's tucked back in an areaway, on the same side of the street as the hotel. I had fettucine al funghi, and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Very simple, but very good. I met a Canadian couple there (we were the only people there for an early lunch) who said that once they had found this place, they never ate anywhere else!

Have a wonderful time; we did.
