Seafood and Typical Sicilian food in Siracusa

The fabulous little Trattoria Ristorante Giove in Ortigia was recommended to us by our Airbnb landlord as the owner is a family friend. It’s nestled on a tiny street near the smaller port, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. A little dish of sun-dried tomatoes and olives with bread was a starter. We skipped the antipasti and went straight to the first course, pasta. Mine was with mussels. My husband’s was with sardines and crunchy brown breadcrumbs. Both were terrific. For our main, we enjoyed a beautiful ocean fish prepared with tomatoes and onions. Side dish of scrumptious vegetables in the Norma style. $5 half liter of the house white and we were good to go. (Having had lots of gelato during the day, we skipped dessert.). We were visited both by the chef/owner, who brought the dishes to the table with his wife. They are clearly passionate about serving authentic food with the freshest ingredients, beautifully prepared. We talked about how to prepare the best Norma with the chef, which was fun. For the quality and quantity of the food, we felt that the €60 was completely justified. We plan to go back later in the week, it was that good.

Thank you for sharing this find! We were in Ortigia in 2014 and missed this gem. I looked at the directions and it was 3 min. from our B&B. We were scheduled for a return in 2020 during the pandemic. Hope to return. We enjoyed dinner at Locanda de Collegio when we visited. Our lunchtime favorite was going to the open market for a delicious sandwich at Caseificio Borderi. Enjoy the rest of your stay!
