San Gimignano - B&B or Hotel

Would love recommendations please for accommodations in the town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. My husband and I are staying two nights in October 2021 before returning rental car to Florence. Our budget isn’t limited (it’s only two nights plus we’re short on time), however, we always like a good value and don’t need luxury - we will be busy outdoors exploring the city. Thank you!

Several years ago, my sister and I stayed in an apartment right on the central piazza (Piazza della Cisterna). I wouldn't recommend that apartment for several reasons (including the +80 stairs to get up there) but the folks at Hotel la Cisterna next door were lovely and helpful to us when we needed help. I never saw beyond their lobby, but they have good reviews and an amazing location. There is no parking on that piazza, but our apartment owners directed us to park in a lot several blocks away just outside the city walls, and gave us a placard to put in our windshield window that gave us the right to park in that closer lot. I'm guessing that Hotel la Cisterna (and other highly rated hotels) will have similar parking arrangements....

You won't want to stay in San Gimignano with a car. However there are a number of agriturisimos and other accommodations close by that will suit your needs very well.

San Gimignano is a very congested place certain hours of the day--when the tour buses arrive. After the tourists leave, it's a completely different place.

We stayed at a farm a few miles away--other by Certaldo--for a few days.

My family group of 4 stayed at Hotel La Cisterna for 3 nights in 2006 and loved it. We had 2 rooms next to each other with balconies overlooking the valley and we spent a lot of time there just soaking in the beauty. The people were nice, the rooms were clean and the view, well, you get the idea. I'd stay there again. We had a car but things have changed so much since then that our experience with parking probably isn't relevant. Staying right in the center of town was just what we wanted with restaurants, shopping and good gelato within a short walk.
