Staying in Venice before Italian Village Tour. RS uses these hotels on other tours: Antigo Trovatore, La Fenice et des Artistes, Mercurio, Serenissima, Pensione Guerrato, Al Ponte Mocenigo. Would appreciate any feedback on these establishments.
Al Ponte Mocenigo is a wonderful hotel just off the Grand Canal at the San Stae vaporetto stop. We found our room to be equipped with every amenity we could want. The staff is helpful and the breakfast selection varied. There is a lovely courtyard for dining outside, or a breakfast room should it be too chilly. Be advised that a card is needed to turn on and off electricity. If you need to recharge your devices overnight, you will need to turn on the electricity but turn off each light so you can sleep! A.C. is available as well should you travel in a season that needs air. The surrounding area is quiet with lots of places to eat. We recommend Boresso which specializes in cichetti that is right down from the hotel on Salizada San Stae. Almost right across from that is Fontego deli Dolcezze which has great gelato. If you walk further back the side canal to Campo San Giacomo, you will find a charming street with our favorite place to dine-- Majer. It is very small, but the chef Alessandro is the best! (In Ricks guidebook for Venice, you will see a map. Look for the Santa Croce area with this Campo right above it. ) Have a wonderful time!
We've stayed at the Serenissima twice. It's fine - not luxurious but our rooms were, well, roomy, and everything was clean and well-kept. I don't remember if there was an elevator or not. The staff were very helpful. The location is fine - the streets between the hotel and the major sights are all twisty and turny, but that's Venice for you.
I stayed at Serenissima on my Best of Italy tour. I had a single room and it was small but clean and charming. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the staff were very helpful. Plus it is centrally located.
I have stayed at both Pensione Guerrato and Al Ponte Mocenigo. Both hotels were great. I loved the location of Pensione Guerrato, but it had more stairs to climb (both to get to reception and to rooms.) I loved sleeping with my window open and listening to the vendors in the fish market setting up. Of course, you may not find that as interesting or welcome as I did early in the morning. The area around Al Ponte Mocenigo was VERY quiet and of course that is a consideration in Venice.
Paris??? I think you mean Venice?
Thanks Tim for noticing. I have corrected. I was planning all day for a Paris trip.
We also stayed at Hotel Serenissima in August 2017 on our BOE 14 day tour. Location was very central, breakfast was better than average, and the hotel staff was friendly. I would stay there again.
We have stayed at 2 different hotels in Venice. Each 2 times. Ca Dogaressa on the Canareggio Canal and Al Ponte Mocenigo.
Both were very comfortable, nice rooms and amenities. Different locations so the "neighborhoods" are different which is fun to get to know a different area. At Ca Dogaressa we only have stayed in the Jr. Suites, which look out over the Canal. I would stay again at either of these hotels.
Have a Great Trip!

We really like Pensione Guerrato and have stayed there several times. The location is very close to a vaporetto stop, but far enough away from Rialto Bridge to not be in the mob scene. As someone mentioned it does have some stairs to climb. If you book there let us know and we can give you directions that will eliminate a lot of walking with the luggage.
I've stayed at Pensione Guerrato twice and would definitely stay again. It is a good location, the rooms are nice and the breakfast is good.
I stayed six nights at Pensione Guerrato last fall, in two different rooms, before and during a RS tour. It was fine for me, some of the desk staff were very helpful. The lobby is one flight above street, and rooms above that, no elevator. My rooms both faced south, one night (Friday) loud music on the piazza came through even with the double-glazed window closed. Not repeated on subsequent nights. The location is great, close to the fish market and Rialto, but on a quiet side street. The breakfast room is pretty small but the food is good. RS books lots of tours here, I shared the place with a previous tour before mine started. Not a place to go if you don't want to encounter other American tourists! ;-)
We stayed a couple nights before the Village Italy tour in Venice and rented an apartment from Pensione Guerrato. They have several and another couple on our tour also rented one from them. Nice area, close to the sites and nice to have a place to come back and cook dinner at after visiting the market or just to enjoy something larger than a hotel room. You can check them out on their website.
We stayed at Pensione Guerrato and were very happy with our accommodations. Our room overlooked the courtyard and was pretty quiet. The location is wonderful. As for stairs, well we weren’t bothered.....just part of European charm.
We’ve also stayed in the Cannareggio district at an Airb&b that was wonderful. Ground floor just off a quiet courtyard.....I’m searching for the address. Ah, Fondamenta Cannaregio 496. Lovely hosts, kitchen, living room and bedroom plus washer. I’d stay at either place again, depending on needs and length of stay.
