Rome restaurant recommedations, Monti and Trastevere areas

I don't see any recent restaurant recommendations in Rome. We are traveling in September, staying in the Monti area but know that Trastevere has some great food. Looking for recommendations for each area.

Ristorante Broccoletti on via Urbana in Monti is excellent.

Near thePantheon, Armando al Pantheon. Book well in advance.
Also near Pantheon, La Rosetta.

In the past, we have liked La Scala in Trastevere. A bit upscale, good seafood, good local and traditional options, seasonal menus (a truffle menu in the fall for example). There are also any number of options there, almost any a good option. Da Enzo al 29 is maybe too well known, but they do have solid Roman dishes. I have recommended Popi Popi, always was a fun place with great Roman menu, we were there last during the pandemic, not the same, but not much was. Many rave about Carlo Menta, can't really say anything for or against. Lots of luck just wandering, looking at menus and finding a smaller place.

Pizza abounds, Dar Poeta, Ai Marmi, and Ivo are well renowned. For pizza by the kilo, la Renella Forno Antica is classic, but I would also do the new fad, Trappizino, a shop selling innovative stuffing in what I would consider focaccia in a neat paper cone.

And then, of course Gelato.

Daughter and I were in Rome in May and stayed at the charming Relais Clarisse Trastevere Hotel. We also can send a thumbs up to Dar Poeta, Il Marmi, and 29 Tavernatta di Tony ( May have this backwards) and IVO, which had the most animated waiter and the largest portions of food. Beware, go by 6pm, or the lineup is a block long with people scowling at you and wanting your table…NOW! For the best bang for your buck and a chance at resturants that you may not get into, book a Food Tour with Eating Italy, you will enjoy it! We have now taken 4, and all as good as the first one.

We did the Eating Europe Twilight Trastevere tour in May. Wonderful! The tour included sitting down for fried artichokes at Da Enzo while people lined up an hour in advance for the restaurant to open. The Jewish ghetto also had great restaurants. Ristorante Pizzeria Sheva was a favorite.

A third recommendation for doing the Eating Italy Twilight Trastevere Tour. Perfect thing to do on your first night in Rome.

Loved Spirito Di Vino.

I hate tours, absolutely hate tours but I loved the Eating Italy Twilight Trastevere Food tour we did two weeks ago. Small group, no flags to follow and nice company. The guide was a native English speaker and had a sense of humor. I can honestly say that this is truly the only tour that I have ever been on that I would do again. That's the highest praise I have.

You'll probably need reservations or be willing to wait around for awhile but Da Enzo in Trastevere is a great choice. It's popular because it's very good but it's also in a few guidebooks. You'll be seated in a fairly small, tightly packed room with probably a 50/50 mix of locals and tourists. Sooo good. Not far from Trastevere in the Centro Storico is Hostaria Costanza. I've been there a few times and every time it's excellent and the waiters are friendly and great. It's set in a building built on top of the Theatre of Pompey so you'll be dining someplace very near to where Caesar was assassinated. It's never happened to me but I've heard sometimes the owner or staff will take you into the basement to show some of the remains of the theater. I suppose neither of these recommendations are a new to RS forums but even still, some of the best meals of my life were had at these two. Wish I was going.

Yes, sorry, it has changed to Eating Europe but after 4 tours , I can’t break the habit unless I’m in another country.😝

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at La Scala last week.

We also took the Twilight Trastevere tour. Rish grew up in Trastevere and did a great job of sharing the history and food experiences with our group. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

For those of you who have done the Twilight Trastevere tour (we have it booked in October) did you get to try the pasta at Da Enzo, or just the artichokes? If no pasta, where was the sit-down pasta meal? Did you go to Spirito di Vino's wine cellar and if so, did you have anything to eat there?
