We had a great stay at Albergo Cesari in 2014. It's a 48 room hotel located on a side street a couple blocks from Trevi Fountain in one direction and the Pantheon in the opposite direction. This hotel was very reasonable in price compared to others in this area. It's been owned and operated by the same family since the late 1700's. A very nice breakfast buffet was included in the room rate and is served on the roof-top terrace. We received extremely friendly and helpful service at this hotel. We were greeted by name when we arrived very late at night, and when we inquired whether any restaurants might still be open, the desk clerk called one in the area that was just closing, convincing them to remain open for us and prepare a table for us in the outdoor dining area. After check out, they stored our luggage and arranged for a cab to pick us up at the time we requested. When I booked, they even offered a pick up at the airport. The rate at that time, for the pick up, was 50 Euro for up to 3 people. We declined but shouldn't have, as we ended up spending this much or more on our two Leonardo Express train tickets and the cab from Rome's Termini Station to the hotel.

We just returned for a pre cruise stay in Rome (4 nights) and a 12 night mediterrean cruise! We stayed at the Hotel Bernini Bristol which is located at Piazza Barberini. It's about 0.3 miles from Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. We absolutely LOVED the hotel. It's closer to the termini station and there's an entrance right outside the hotel. We did not take the subway at all so I can't comment on that. The hotel was a palace that's been converted. The rooms are very elegant ( king size bed, upholstered walls, granite bathroom counters). We booked it through Delta vacations and I thought we got a good price. Breakfast was included and it was a very nice spread- complete with as many cappuccinos! The hotel is at the end of Via Veneto which use to be 'the place' to stay. while it's not anymore, I thought the hotel (5 star) and location were centrally located enough that we walked everywhere except when we went to the Vatican ( taxi cab was 10 euro). Piazza barberini is a very small area with a round about in the square, so if you want a complete pedestrian zone, this isn't it. but we didn't find the traffic to be an issue. I would stay there again. Enjoy your trip!

We stayed in a pleasant, reasonable, family run, small hotel called the Hotel Golden in a residential neighborhood, so I felt more like a local than a tourist. The family made a homemade full buffet breakfast each morning for the guests. The owners were personable and helpful with tips about the city. It was located off the pricey Via Veneto, within walking distance of the Borghese gardens, Spanish Steps, bus stop, and hop on hop off bus, which was a great way to get a feel for the city the day we arrived. Good reviews on TripAdvisor.

We stayed @ Hotel Smeraldo, it wasn't cheap but lovely with great breakfast & friendly help. The rooms were up to date & in a great neighborhood. I almost stayed @ Hotel Pomezia about 10 ft. away that was cheaper but TA said they had paper-thin walls. It was within walking distance to everything.

Someone recommended the Beehive in Rome to me on this board and we are booked for 2 nights. Owner is American and any questions I had so far have been answered in detail and promptly. I am very impressed. Good luck! http://www.the-beehive.com/

Hi Karen! My husband and I stayed at the Beehive for a total of (4) nights in 2013. As Susanne said, the staff is very helpful and the location is just a short walk from Termini train station. We arrived early in the morning with our flight from the USA and although our room was not quite ready we got there, they left us store our bags and even kept the cafe open a little longer so we could eat a freshly "made-to-order" coffee & DELICIOUS vegan breakfast! The breakfasts are an extra cost but, definitely of high quality and well worth it. We booked a "Classic" private double room with the shared hallway bathrooms. There was a sink in our room for hand washing & brushing your teeth, etc., which was very "handy" and there was absolutely no problem with getting into the hallway toilets and showers, when needed, any time of the day, while we were there. Overall, an excellent value for a big city and would highly recommend for any budget traveler who wants a convenient location and likes to meet other guests! Happy Travels!!!

I've recently stayed at B&B Smart, the owner Isabella was such a wondeful person, I've really enjoyed all my stay there, my room was the one with ensuite private bathroom and lightblue wallpaper which is my favourite colour too!
Can highly recommend to you all

Hi Karen,
I just posted a review, about 3 above yours, of a great apartment in Trasteverre, Rome. I don't know if it's available for less than a week but it might be worth checking out. (I also posted one for Naples which was truly an extraordinary experience). Have a great trip!
