Ristorante alla Basilica

Four of us tried lunch at the recommended Ristorante alla Basilica and we were very disappointed. The first pasta course was fine but the secondi courses were practically inedible. Two of us had the tuna which was dry, tough and tasteless. Another person had another type of fish ( not translated into English) and it was also very poor. The fourth person had the pork chop, and it was tough and tasteless. The vegetables were cooked to mush. None of us could eat that course. We ate rather late in the lunch hour, and perhaps everything had been in the steamtable for a few hours. Service was pleasant and WCs were clean.

Thanks for the review, Carolyn, and welcome to the Helpline.

I haven't heard of the Ristorante alla Basilica, Italy is big and has many Basilicas. Which city are you talking about? How did you find it in the first place?

How late in the lunch hour were you?

Hi, Carolyn. Was that in Venice? Venice restaurants get so much tourist traffic that food often is not what it could be. I see the listing (p.146 RS Italy). Since one description there is "institutional-feeling place," I bet you're right about the steam table. I will forward your feeback to our book department.
