We really enjoyed Osteria Permalico. It was one of our best meals in Siena.

We've eaten twice (fall 24 and this past April) at Antica Trattoria Papei, on Piazza Mercado behind City Hall (south of the Campo). Loved meal and outdoor patio, also mention in the RS Italy book. But hard to go wrong in Siena, even if on the Campo.

Totally agree with Larry. Antica Trattoria Papei is my favorite and have been there many times. Go with the house wines...very good and very inexpensive. Their pastas and second dishes are all very good. Tried to make phone reservations with my rusty Italian and the crusty gentleman hung up on me once, but got my point across the 2nd try. May not even need one because it's large inside and outside.
